The Scheme

Our community transport scheme helps less able residents of North Herts & Stevenage solve their transport problems.
We use a dedicated team of volunteers who all use their own cars in their free time,

to transport passengers who live locally to their required destination.

As of April 2016 we also took over the Lister Voluntary Car Scheme, and as such our capacity has grown immensely,
we now have approximately 70 volunteer drivers, covering various areas of North Herts, Stevenage and parts of East Herts.

The scheme is run by local co-ordinators who have a team of volunteer drivers who use their own cars in their free time.

All of our drivers are paid a mileage rate of 0.45p per mile to cover the distance they travel from and back to their own home.

The Scheme has Public Liability Insurance cover.

Who are our drivers?

Our drivers are from all walks of life, some are retired, or students, or parents with children at school.

All have varied backgrounds and interests, and enjoy helping others.

All our drivers have all been DBS checked.

Who are our clients?

The scheme is aimed at individuals who are unable to use other passenger transport due to age, frailty, impaired mobility,

disabilities and special needs, It may also be due to no alternative transport being available.

Anybody using a wheelchair must be able to self transfer from their wheelchair to the car,

or must take a relative or friend to assist them.

Wheelchairs must be collapsible.
