The scheme uses a dedicated team of volunteers who all use their own cars to transport passengers to healthcare appointments at hospitals, clinics and surgeries, in addition to dental appointments, day centres and exercise / physio classes etc.
There is a mileage rate of 45p per mile which is paid directly to the Volunteer Driver, with a minimum charge of £5.
The Scheme has Public Liability Insurance cover.
Who are our drivers?
Our drivers are from all walks of life, some are retired, or students, or parents with children at school.
All have varied backgrounds and interests, and enjoy helping others.
All our volunteer drivers have an Enhanced DBS check. We obtain the appropriate references and each driver carries out a thorough induction prior to commencing their role with us.
Who are our clients?
The scheme is aimed at individuals who are unable to use other methods of passenger transport due to age, frailty, impaired mobility, disabilities and special needs. It may also be due to no alternative transport being available.
Anybody using a wheelchair must be able to self transfer from their wheelchair to the car, or must take a relative or friend to assist them. Wheelchairs must be collapsible.
